So you think a trip to one of our great national parks, a treasure of natural beauty breathtaking who all together it's something to consider only during peak summer holiday. Well, before booking for next July or August to finalize their Plans for Thanksgiving with Grandma, have you considered spending Thanksgiving in Yosemite?
From mid to late fall time period, including the week of Thanksgiving is an ideal time to visit our country's third oldest, third most visited, and the general this writer, the most beautiful national park. The climate is perhaps the best for hiking, housing is much cheaper and available in a shorter period, wildlife and fall colors are abundant, and the crowds have gone home.
My wife and I had the chance to spend a thanks very memorable to Yosemite a few years ago. Our most vivid memory is an experience that almost never happened. We began our last full day in the park and had planned to walk "Four Mile Trail to the Valley to Glacier Point. We woke up to learn the temperature was perfect - in the top 30 with an afternoon high hopes in the top 50. Then what was the problem, right? The factor that made us almost scrap our plans, is that the morning mist. We knew that visibility would be poor and afraid of our walk ends at Glacier Point, without the ability to see amusement parks history, "Half Dome" Fortunately, we have decided to increase Fog is better than no walk.
We have superimposed a pair of long sleeved shirts, a sweatshirt and jacket down. As we sailed on the high road, which began to shed the layers until we approached the summit, we were each in a pair of walks in long-sleeved shirts. While the increase provided that all solitudes, the conversation between the two great of us, the smell of the pine beetle and the site of two duets other excursions along the way, the real fun appeared unexpectedly. Just below the crest of Glacier Point, after a rise of 3,200 feet, suddenly and unexpectedly emerged from the mist. There was, Half Dome in full sun at the top layer of mist. We had no view of the valley, 3200 feet below us, but half of the dome of overhanging fog as a jumbo jet, and when it is beyond the layer of clouds or storms out in the sun and clear.
Although the park is open 365 days a year there are sections that are closed seasons. November and December is when most closings take place and the exact dates vary each year due to climate. The road to Glacier Point and Tioga Road to the Highlands can not expect to be open. However, the highlights of the entire park destinations in the Valley, mostly based in the paths of the valley, the Mariposa Grove of giant sequoias, and West and South entrances are open all year. Note that is required to have chains with you to show you are ready to put them in the direction of park staff, without notice. If you rent a car Remember to ask the supply chains rental company. Many will, and you avoid having to buy chains that we may never need again and probably no transportation home.
On Thanksgiving Day, it will be difficult to find a better meal or the most memorable scenes found in Yosemite. You will find special menus in both the 4 - Diamond Ahwahnee Hotel "room, and the Mountain Room "restaurant located just behind the house" at Yosemite Falls. Both are located in the heart of the valley. There are also delicious holiday meal at the Hotel "Wawona" and "Tenaya Lodge, located one mile from the southern entrance to Yosemite. The four properties are "Delaware North Companies" operated on Properties. My wife and I dined at "Tenaya Lodge at Day Thanksgiving for several years and have never experienced a more pleasant environment. Its fabulous buffet offers many meats, salads, endless parties, breads, and deserts, not to mention the ice sculptures.
As mentioned earlier, in late fall is one the best times of year to be closer to wildlife in Yosemite. With cooler temperatures at higher altitudes, and this fewer people, research wildlife to lower altitudes and are frequently observed in all regions of the valley. You will find accommodation prices which was significantly reduced in late autumn. Finally, while the summer is a real concern, you'll have no trouble finding places to park your vehicle.
I am a 50 year old former Pharmaceutical sales Representative, Sales Manager, and Director. I have a B.S. in Business from Indiana University and am a Texas licensed CPA. I have lived most of my life in Indiana and Texas.
However, my life took an unexpected turn in 2006 with the diagnosis of incurable Colon Cancer. Having had the fortune of visiting what many would consider every major National Park in the U.S., including Alaska and Hawaii, plus British Columbia and Alberta, I have begun to write about my vast experiences. On August 30th, 2009, my first book, "The Concise Visitors Guide to Yosemite" was published. It is available at Amazon.com.
