do I have to contect a ranger when staying over night on the appalachian trail?
I used to do the trial when I was a boyscout for 10 years from the hamburg Reservoir to the Pinnacle in PA. If anyone is familiar with this trail I was wondering since my girlfriend and I wanted to do this trail together do I need to contact anyone and get permission to spend the night on the mountain my plan was to hike up in the afternoon sometime around four and spend the night and come down in the morning and if so what are the rule on a fire. I never planned this out it was the leaders job and now i am clueless about the whole ordeal.
Some sections of the AT pass through wilderness zones and a permit will be necessary, some camp spots and huts may be crowded due to folks not getting the permits. Here is a great web site with folks in the know
