Northeastern Pennsylvania, commonly known as NEPA, is a hive of activity, whatever the season. That coal mines have decreased decades ago, so the population. Northeast PA developed a reputation as a place where the future was bleak. At the heart of coal country, the NEPA has been open pit mines open and abandoned coal breakers and iron beds. A declining population in the city of Scranton, in particular, left a dark panorama of the inhabitants who remained. But as the population and the largest industry in the region has been reduced, a new light has began to emerge at the end of the tunnel now. It was pride. Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and the Poconos have grown in many ways in the years since coal was gone. New construction, new ideas, projects, mine reclamation, tourism and an influx of New York and New Jersey residents seeking a life a little quieter made our NEPA to increased activity.
Activity abroad, in particular, has thrived in our parks and recreation areas. There are hiking trails and specifically the new Rails "trails" program which claimed ownership of the age Railway and converted the abandoned rail beds, in landscapes, walking trails relaxed hiking and jogging. The sections of the route can be found through the NEPA along the Lackawanna and Susquehanna River and through many cities and residential areas and forests, private areas. The trails are particularly busy spring, summer and autumn when the weather cooperates.
Lakes and reservoirs NEPA is also busy in the warmer seasons, and for ice fishermen, even in winter. NEPA is home to Lake Wallenpaupack, the largest artificial lake man Pennsylvania. The lake in particular, attracts thousands each year for boating and water sports and even comes with its own islands. Further south is Harvey's Lake one of the lakes in the north-PA-first for water sports and sailing. Small lakes and reservoirs are too numerous to list, but fortunately are scattered throughout the NEPA.
For lovers of music is even better ... Northeast PA has its own amphitheater of mountain in the assembly, with the greatest entertainers of the name year after year. This, of course, is a "pay-as-you-go place, but there is much music in the rest area that do not cost a penny. August Nay park occasionally offers summer concerts outdoors open to the public. Then there are the festivals of Carnival and many area activities Religious outside with live music, including ethnic music for everyone to enjoy.
Winter is no shortage of activities Outdoor either. The ski resorts in the area open during winter months when the weather does not cooperate, they are simply doing their own snow. There several ski resorts in the Poconos, near Scranton, and a few miles north of Scranton, near the picturesque town of Uniondale. And do not stop not there, snowmobiling is also available for those who need the speed or those who feel the need to go where many others have not. It is publicly available, the club owns and operates the snowmobile trails and paths culminating in state parks to select for your pleasure.
In general, you can not go wrong with a visit to NEPA if you love the outdoors. Through friendship, hospitality residents and plenty of options for the whole family occupied Northeast PA has become a destination for those wishing to enjoy mother nature, whatever the season.
