Buying a Global Positioning System (GPS) to meet their needs can not be as simple as one might think. There are a multitude of different devices, for many different purposes.

The first thing to consider when buying a GPS device is its primary use. Will you use it on the road, on road or water?

The devices are usually temporary Road Riding in the car with suction cups or bean bags. Most of these devices in turn have detailed instructions and automatic correction if you miss once.

We recommend using a camera with auto-correction that you will not have to mess with the device if you took a wrong turn it automatically recalculates the route.

There are some devices that are also portable, so you can disconnect your car and take with you while you walk around a big city.

My favorite in this category is the Garmin C330, C340 and C530. They are a great size for use in the vehicle and small enough for use as phones. They have maps pre-loaded, so not much use off road.

Many new models have built in picture viewers, MP3 players, traffic updates (careful, it usually costs extra!), and many other bells and whistles.

One of the best features of the Garmin C series is the possibility to ask more about attractions, such as food, gas, shopping, golf courses, etc.

As with anything you buy, make sure which includes what aircraft and what you want to use before making the final decision!

One of the most frequent you should buy the car with GPS already in it?

Personally, I like this option because it limits how you can make level, and the device can not be used in several vehicles.

In addition, some car manufacturers are charging several hundred dollars to update the map data on these devices and have few options in use them for this.

Market GPS is a rapidly changing market and I love being in control of what device you want to buy.

That said, I have decided to a device mounted on my dashboard or windshield (suction cups .... also illegal in some countries, so make sure you know what!) with son behind Food.

On the trail of the devices are handheld computers that represent topographic mapping data, or base, not the level details Details of the street. They are ideal for hiking and treasure hunting. They have the ability to either import or download coordinates of a location (called waypoints) and tell you how you are near reference.

Capable of being afraid to lose hiking, so you can define different points, such as walking, like a trail of crumbs so that you can do what they came devices ranging from $ 80 - $ 500 + depending on the different capabilities of the device.

Top-end you can buy pre-loaded on maps detail the memory card, so they can be used as addresses, however, still have no way of capacity turning.

GPS devices used in water are fixed mount devices. These devices may have the water depth, temperature, etc, especially helpful for the fisherman.

Maps can be downloaded can have tidal waters, known shipwrecks, ports, and are very detailed. A wide range of features to consider in this area.

Note that the mapping software used in these devices changes 1-2 times per year. Less often the cards into the water.

Understanding what devices can download if you do not stay with outdated charts forever!

Be aware that changing maps, you must be flexible enough to follow the instructions. I been cases where it says "turn left", only to have to be the wrong one way street!

In other words, They are guides to near where it should be, can not be used as gospel .... Common sense must prevail!
